How to Prepare for a Tattoo

Tips to ensure you’re ready for your tattoo session.

How to Get Ready for a Tattoo
Preparing for a tattoo is an exciting process, but it requires some planning to ensure everything goes smoothly. By following a few key steps, you can make the experience as enjoyable as possible while ensuring the best results. From nourishing your body to planning for aftercare, getting ready for a tattoo is all about setting yourself up for a positive and memorable journey.

Getting a tattoo is an exciting journey, and proper preparation can make all the difference. At OSCO, we’re here to help you feel confident and ready for your big day, ensuring the process is seamless and enjoyable.

Here’s what you need to know before you head to your session:

Hydrate and Nourish

Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment and eat a balanced, filling meal before your session. Staying hydrated helps your skin heal more efficiently, and a solid meal will keep your blood sugar stable, reducing any chance of dizziness or discomfort during the process.

Rest Well

Make sure you get a full night’s sleep before your tattoo appointment. Being well-rested helps you feel calm, keeps your pain tolerance higher, and ensures you’re mentally prepared for the experience. Fatigue can make the process feel more taxing, so prioritise rest.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Choose clothes that allow easy access to the area being tattooed and ensure they won’t cause irritation during or after your session. For example, if you’re getting a tattoo on your arm, opt for a short-sleeved or sleeveless top. Loose, breathable clothing also keeps you comfortable for longer sessions.

Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine

Avoid consuming alcohol or excessive caffeine for at least 24 hours before your session. Both substances can thin your blood, which might lead to more bleeding during the tattooing process and impact how the ink settles in your skin.

Moisturise Your Skin

In the week leading up to your appointment, apply an unscented moisturiser daily to the area that will be tattooed. Healthy, hydrated skin takes ink better and heals faster. However, avoid using any lotions or creams on the day of your tattoo to keep the skin clean and ready.

Plan for Aftercare

Before your appointment, stock up on aftercare essentials like fragrance-free soap, a healing ointment, and breathable bandages. Being prepared means you can start caring for your tattoo immediately after your session, helping it heal properly and maintain its vibrancy.

Bring Distractions

For longer sessions, consider bringing headphones, your favourite playlist or a book to keep yourself occupied. Staying relaxed and entertained can help the time fly by and make the overall experience more enjoyable.

Our goal at OSCO is to make your tattoo experience as comfortable as possible. Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, these preparation tips will help set you up for success.
